Location

The proposed Miriam Vale Solar Farm will be located at Colosseum, 6km southwest of Miriam Vale and 60km southwest of Gladstone, within Gladstone Regional Council boundaries.

Project Overview

Solar to power Queensland’s renewable future

The Miriam Vale Solar Farm will be co-located with the proposed Miriam Vale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The Solar Farm will operate for about 30 years and have a capacity of up to 150MW. When fully operational, the Solar Farm will be able to generate up to 1,200 megawatt hours of clean, renewable energy per annum.

The Project will include photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and ancillary equipment to absorb maximum sunlight and produce as much clean, renewable energy as possible.

Both the Solar Farm and BESS will support Queensland’s transition towards a decarbonised energy network that provides reliable, consistent and affordable electricity for years to come.

The projects will also boost the regional economy by employing local people and procuring goods and services from local businesses and contractors, where possible, during construction, operation and decommissioning.

Our overarching project Fact Sheet, BESS specific Fact Sheet, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and Fast Facts provide more information about the Solar Farm and BESS. These documents will be updated as our project planning progresses.

Project status

We have had more than 200 conversations with our site neighbours, the community and key stakeholders, and have incorporated their design recommendations into our project planning. The scale and design of the projects have therefore changed significantly since our Solar Farm and BESS Development Applications (DAs) were lodged with Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) in mid-2024.

These changes, along with the new Planning (Social Impact and Community Benefit) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025, mean our existing DAs are likely no longer relevant in their current form.

PEP has therefore withdrawn the project DAs to finalise updated planning and design, and assess resubmission via the appropriate approval authority.
